The Kitsilano Theatre (aka The Kitsilano). 2114 West 4th Avenue Built in 1921 as a Vaudeville and live theater. It had a Robert Morton Pipe Organ costing $15,000. First movie shown was "In Old Kentucky". The theater was later owned and operated by the Langer Theater Circuit in 1929 but was sold to Famous Players shortly after. It had a seating capacity of 847. The theater closed in 1955. The building still stands today and is a heritage building. Thankfully, Vancouver’s Russian Community rescued it in 1958 from demolition and transformed it into The Russian Community Center where they still operate cultural events. |
